Emergency services have launched a major search and rescue operation after they received reports of a person being swept away in the River Kelvin.
Multiple police, ambulance and fire crews have been on the scene for over an hour after they received reports of two people struggling in the water at around 5.45pm. A man was rescued and is currently receiving treatment, however, the search for the second individual is ongoing. Eyewitnesses say that a helicopter has been seen flying above the River Kelvin and a boat is also being brought to the scene by fire crews. Helicopter spotlights are in the river next to Kelvin hall.
"I saw them when leaving the gym at around 6pm. They're still there now. Seen over 30 vehicles with sirens and lights on."A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 5.45pm on Wednesday, 22 October, 2023, we received report of concern for two people in the water at the River Kelvin, near to Eldon Street, Glasgow."Emergency services are in attendance and searches for the second person remain ongoing.
