Pete Wicks was quick to mention Maura Higgins when chatting about food deprivation with recent I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winner, Danny Jones. Maura, who has been romantically linked to The Only Way is Essex star Pete, joined Danny in the Australian jungle for the 24th series of the popular reality TV series. And Pete referenced the Co Longford beauty when discussing his experience with being denied food in comparison with I'm a Celeb campmates' meal struggles Down Under. As Danny joined Pete on the Staying Relevant podcast, the pair chatted about how difficult it can be to get back to eating normally after a period of limited eating, like that which Danny endured during his spell in the jungle. While Pete has yet to take part in I'm a Celeb, the 37-year-old did participate in the similarly arduous Celebrity Island with Bear Grylls, Devon Live reports, and he offered his thoughts on food deprivation and gave some insight into how Maura coped with food post-jungle. Pete said: "Right, this is really odd; right, when you say you couldn't eat anything, is it, like, when you're in shows like this... the only thing I can compare it to is, I did Bear Grylls' Island." He explained that he lost a "f*****g load of weight" and "you can't f*****g eat", so when you appear in these types of show, you're "dreaming" of the food you miss. He recalled: "And then when you come out, you eat them and it's not as good as what you remember, and I couldn't stomach anything. The best thing I could eat was just fresh fruit, because it's the sweetness and whatever else." Pete admitted that while he had dreams of scoffing sweets and doughnuts after his reality TV experience, he felt it was "not great" when he finally had the opportunity to eat whatever he wanted again and it took him "so long" to get back to normal eating. But the TOWIE star revealed: "Mate, Maura came out, right? And she told me this - she literally went straight in and had like a full fry-up and then had a burger, and then had three plates of pasta, and was just like f*****g gorging herself." It has been rumoured for several months that Pete and Maura have been dating but neither have confirmed the status of their relationship, with Pete previously telling the Daily Mail that the pair are "very close", while the ex-Love Islander revealed that her "dating show days were done" on an episode of ITV's Loose Women, prompting Katie Piper to ask: "So is that you saying you're not single?" Maura responded: "No, did I say that? I know what you're doing! No, I never said anything... next question."
