Peter McNab, the Colorado Avalanche’s longtime color commentator for Altitude TV, has died, the team announced Sunday. He was 70.
McNab called Avalanche games for 26 years, spanning the franchise’s entire existence in Denver. He was beloved by hockey fans in Colorado for the joy and honest analysis he brought to broadcasts. McNab announced on Sept. 29, 2021, that he was fighting cancer. He continued calling games for the Avalanche and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in December 2021.McNab was born into a hockey family in Vancouver, but his own career blossomed in Denver. He was a standout forward for the University of Denver, where he landed on NHL radars and was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1972.
