The RAC has accused major retailers of failing to reduce petrol prices even though wholesale costs are coming down. It singled out supermarkets for particular criticism, accusing them of not passing on savings to customers.

Fuel prices hit the highest levels on record earlier this summer but the wholesale cost of petrol has gradually come down by around 20p since the start of June. Motorists looking to fill up have been warned the ‘big four’ supermarkets – Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s – may no longer be the cheapest option.
