Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler's match against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau has a date and a venue, with hopes of sending a signal to the PGA Tour and LIV Golf executives
The date and venue of the PGA Tour vs LIV Golf match, which will pit Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler against Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, has been confirmed.
Four-time McIlroy is ranked third in the world and he will team up with reigning Masters champion and world No. 1 Scheffler. Representing LIV, five-time major champion Koepka and 2024 US Open winner DeChambeau – once bitter rivals on the course, hope to score a victory for the breakaway circuit. The result has been a fractured game at the elite level, with McIlroy – once among LIV's staunchest critics – leading calls for the PGA Tour and PIF to seal a deal that would reunify men's professional golf. At present, players from the rival tours meet at a select few events each year, including the majors, but a merger would open up more opportunities for the best players in the world to compete against each other more often.
McIlroy hopes "The Showdown" is a signal to the PGA Tour and LIV's executives of what the game could look like if a deal were finally to be reached.
