A pharmacist has issued a warning ahead of the upcoming May bank holiday as it is a common time for surges in urinary tract infections - she shared tips on how to avoid one
Niamh McMillan, Superdrug’s Pharmacy Superintendent, has said that this time of year usually sees a surge in urinary tract infections, Wales Online reports.
"Waiting too long to urinate after sexual intercourse allows bacteria to linger in the urinary tract. Individuals, particularly women, should urinate shortly after intimacy to help flush out bacteria and help reduce the risk of an infection.” She added: “Insufficient water intake can lead to concentrated urine, providing an ideal environment for bacterial growth. Even mild dehydration can lead to reduced urine output which means any bacteria present in the urethra isn’t being flushed out quick enough.
