Noah Syndergaard will start Game 3, but he hasn't pitched deep into a game in four weeks
Noah Syndergaard of the Philadelphia Phillies looks on during batting practice prior to Game 1 of the World Series against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park on October 28, 2022.PHILADELPHIA — When the Angels dealt for Noah Syndergaard at the trade deadline, they expected him to bolster their starting rotation for a playoff run behind their top two starters Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola. As it turns out, Syndergaard has yet to throw more than three innings in a game this postseason.
Syndergaard went 5-8 with a 3.83 ERA in 15 starts with the Angels — including a scoreless 5.1 innings against the Astros in the season-opening series in Anaheim and a rougher start in July when Houston tagged him for three runs in four innings — before being dealt to Philadelphia in August. In the final two months with the Phillies, he went 5-2 with a 4.12 ERA.
"He's a big, strong guy. It's the World Series, so we'll see how he does, see how he feels and constantly communicate with him as he comes off the field," Phillies manager Rob Thomson said."If he's throwing the ball well and he's not rusty and he's sharp, we'll keep going as long as he feels good."
