The new designation for the collection of storefronts and other buildings known as the Sunshine Mile is expected to help preserve the mid-century structures, including the old Hirsch's Shoes that closed in 2016 after more than 60 years in business.Hirsh’s Shoes was built in 1954 and is one of 29 buildings in the district designed by architect Bernard Friedman’s firm.Ray Manley / Tucson Historic Preservation FoundationHirsh’s Shoes at 2934 E.
