The traditional brand loyalty among pickup truck owners appears to be eroding while interest in pickups powered by batteries is on the rise according to a new study by vehicle buying and research site CarGurus.com.
, while new vehicle inventory on dealer lots remains low—down 69.7% year-over-year in January, used vehicle inventory increased 3.9% last month from December and is down just .08% year-over-year.
That's not dampening demand. According to the survey of truck owners, 42% said the Covid-19 pandemic made them more interested in buying a vehicle “at this time,” while 45% said the pandemic made them more interested in buying a truck “instead of a different type of vehicle,” such as an SUV or passenger car.Part of that increase is new enthusiasm for electric pickup trucks with Edwards pointing out, “We definitely see growing interest in electric trucks.
