A small plane crashed into a transmission tower in Maryland on Sunday evening, leaving passengers stranded for hours while suspended almost 100 feet in the air. The collision, which happened about 40 miles southwest of Baltimore and 15 miles outside of Washington, D.C., forced power outages throughout Montgomery County.The crash, which took place around 5:30 p.m.
"The powerlines are still energized, so we're waiting for the power company to shut it down," Piringer told NPR."Then we'll be able to get them out of there." Piringer, who said that the fire department is in contact with the plane's pilot, as well as"one or two passengers" who remain stranded, said that the crash is causing power outages throughout the county. It's unclear how many people were affected by the outages, but statewide, about 80,000 customers were without power as of 8 p.m. on Sunday, according to
