The city council is revamping the Easter Queenslie site, which will be the largest inUnder the proposals, a new material recovery facility , to replace the current centre at Blochairn, would be developed as well as office and welfare accommodation for workers.Demolition work in preparation for the construction of the new facilities has already begun.

The depot, developed in the 1950s, is within the Easter Queenslie industrial estate, and the existing staff accommodation has “defects typical with a building of its age”.documents add the “main loft at the centre of the site suffered structural impact damage and was removed from service circa 2019”.

“Robust operational facilities will enable Glasgow to meet its challenging recycling targets and ensure that the city becomes an exemplar for the management of recycling and waste, with Easter Queenslie as a centre of environmental excellence.” Blue bin recycling is currently processed at Blochairn but council officials previously reported the plant is “ageing” and would “not be effective” in processing the “changing composition” of materials.
