Da Luciano's in the upmarket village of Bothwell, Lanarkshire, has been sealed off by investigators after a fire broke out shortly after midnight.
A blaze at a popular restaurant in a village known for its celebrity footballers and business tycoon residents is being investigated by police.
Police and forensic officers could be seen working outside the fire-gutted Italian restaurant while a sniffer dog was also used. A fire investigation team was also working at the scene while shocked neighbours looked on. "There's clearly been a lot of damage caused to the inside and outside of the restaurant and the police have got it sealed off.
Bothwell has been the scene of numerous fire bombings in recent years. The San Vincenzo eaterie in the village was targeted repeatedly with incidents including a series of fires and vandal attacks. The inferno spread to the roof of her £500,000 house and to the neighbouring property owned by former Celtic star Leigh Griffiths.
