Boris Johnson could face no-confidence battle next week, if he doesn’t resign before then, as 1922 Committee vote brought forward

from a second no-confidence vote could be scrapped next week, as the Conservative Party machinery moves to get rid of its leader.has moved forward its planned elections to next Monday, with MPs backing rule changes seeking to take over the executive in their bid to oust Mr Johnson.

If successful, they are likely to immediately scrap the rules that currently protect Mr Johnson from a no-confidence vote until June 2023. The current rules stipulate that a no-confidence vote cannot be held until 12 months after the last one – but the change will allow a further vote to happen within days.

Tory MP Alec Shelbrooke said nominations for the Committee executive will close at midday on Monday. Voting will take place on Monday afternoon and the result announced in the evening. Mr Johnson survived last month’s no-confidence battle by a vote of 211 to 148, but dozens of MPs and ministers previously loyal to the PM –calling for Boris Johnson to quit, and could soon represent a majority of the party.to tell Mr Johnson he must go, or face a fresh ballot. Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the Tory 1922 Committee, was seen heading towards Downing Street.
