Psychotherapist Dr. Richard Hogan and Dr. Ciara Kelly discuss the complexities of infidelity, offering advice on recognizing the signs, coping with the aftermath, and navigating the difficult decisions that often follow.

Psychotherapist Dr Richard Hogan and former GP turned broadcaster Dr Ciara Kelly have joined forces for a no-nonsense, straight-talking podcast, ‘They F**k You Up’, which tackles life’s messiest issues from affairs, jealousy, anxiety, people pleasing and more. Between them, Richard and Ciara have seen and heard it all and they’re bringing their expertise, first-hand experiences and words of warning to listeners struggling with life’s trickiest problems.

January is renowned for being ‘divorce month’, the time when couples are most likely to end their marriage, and as Richard and Ciara explain, most marriages end due to affairs. Speaking about the “tell-tale” signs someone is having an affair, Ciara said there is a certain pattern of behaviour she has come to recognise in her years of experience as a family doctor. “I’ll tell you one thing I’ve seen a lot over the years. Wives come to me devastated saying, ‘my husband came to me three weeks ago and said I want out, now’. “They’ll say ‘he’s been a bit checked out for the last six or twelve months, but he’s never said anything and now he’s leaving, he just wants to go’. “And I have almost always gone, ‘is he having an affair?’ An ending that looks like that is almost always an affair”.
