Greta Thunberg has been charged following her arrest at a protest outside an energy conference in central London yesterday.
She was one of 26 activists who were arrested near the InterContinental Hotel in Mayfair yesterday while oil executives met inside as part of the Energy Intelligence Forum.
Officers said they asked the protesters to move from the road onto the pavement which would have allowed them to continue protesting legally.Ms Thunberg, 20, was bailed after being charged with breaching Section 14 of the Public Order Act and will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 15 November.
She had been attending a demonstration organised by Fossil Free London who were aiming to disrupt the forum. The demonstrators say fossil fuel companies are deliberately slowing the global energy transition to renewables in order to make more profit, highlighting that this year's UN climate conference president is also the chief executive of an oil company.
Images on social media showed Thunberg, 20, being led away by police officers and placed in the back of a marked van on Tuesday afternoon.
