Beloved police horse retires due to heart problems after protecting Lancashire for 13 years
A Lancashire Police horse has retired after 13 years due to heart problems. PH Elswick is now 18 years old and it was recently discovered that his heart isn't working quite the way it should be.
He has assisted the force at a variety of events - and even went on the pitch at PNE V Blackpool when crowds invaded. He has been described by colleagues as the 'bravest horse' they have.A spokesperson for Lancashire Mounted Police said: "Yesterday we said farewell and a happy retirement to PH Elswick. Also known as Sam , Elswick has been here at the Mounted Branch serving as a Police Horse for 13 years now and has won over everybody’s heart in that time.
"There is an endless list of events that Elswick has been to over the past 13 years, including a long list of football matches, various high profile protests/marches, mutual aid events assisting other Police Forces, musical rides, riding courses and so much more. Elswick always wants to please, even if a bit nervous he puts all of his trust in his rider and would take them into any situation. He is by far the bravest horse we have.
