'We cannot stress the importance of staying off the motorway network.'
Officers said they received 'a number of reports' about the youngsters on the motorway on Saturday and Sunday. Police said this causes a 'massive danger' to them and to drivers on the road.
They urged parents to make children aware of the dangers. Motorists who spot people walking along a motorway should call 999 or 101.A post on the GMP Rochdale Facebook page this morning said: "Over the weekend , Greater Manchester Police have received a number of reports of youths walking along the M62 motorway. Despite this being a huge danger to the youths involved it is also a massive danger to road users.
"Issues like these can cause serious injury to all involved. We cannot stress the importance of staying off the motorway network. "Please can all guardians / carers make all children aware of the dangers that this can cause. Please continue to report issues such as these to us via 999 / 101."
