Civilian investigators are being asked to help solve major crimes, work on fatal accident inquiries, investigate rogue police officers and help with Covid deaths in care homes
Ordinary members of the public are being recruited to Police Scotland to help investigate crime - and will be paid more than trainee officers.
Would-be armchair detectives need to "possess an inquisitive mind set with attention to detail", have "good report writing skills" and an "ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team" to get the job. "This is on top of the redundancy process they undertook to cut payroll costs further. If the service finds itself with money to play with, we would welcome news on our pay claim more than hearing about the -recruitment of these posts when we are already seeing police officer numbers fall to levels not seen in over a decade."
The adverts reveal details of the -investigations including "Operation Koper which relates to deaths during Covid within care, health and custody settings" and "Operation Chalk which relates to non-recent reports of abuse within the care setting".
