Police in Mansfield have seized a bicycle that had an engine attached to it, turning it into a motor vehicle. Officers from the Mansfield South neighbourhood policing team discovered the adapted bike on Sunday (December 29) while on patrol. The team stated that the bicycle had been modified into a motor vehicle by adding an engine, enabling it to be ridden under its own power.
Police emphasize that modified bikes are illegal unless they are taxed, have passed an MOT, are registered with the DVLA, and operated by a licensed individual. This applies to electric motorcycles as well. The consequences of operating an illegal modified bike include vehicle seizure, driving licence points, fines, and in severe cases, imprisonment. These penalties apply even to individuals too young to hold a driver's licence, with any points incurred being added to their driving record upon reaching driving age.
