20:21:26Sky News understands the Privileges Committee will not publish its report into whether Boris Johnson misled the Commons until Wednesday.

"This has required over 13,770 police officer shifts, that's over 13,000 police shifts that could have been stopping robbery, violent crime or anti-social behaviour, and the cost to the taxpayer is an outrage - £4.5 million in just six weeks on top of the £14 million spent last year. At the time of his conviction he was still serving as the MP for Wakefield – with access to parliament, in charge of staff and able to meet constituents. The investigation had begun years earlier.

But those pushing for change argue it is an important step to creating a safer place for those working in Westminster, particularly given the numerous examples in recent years of inappropriate and exploitative behaviour. The two political firebrands that less than four years ago helped inflict upon Labour its worst election defeat since 1935 have imploded in spectacular fashion, scarring their parties’ political reputations in the process.
