Labour say Rishi Sunak should block Boris Johnson from giving honours to a 'carousel of cronies' - follow the latest political developments on the Politics Hub

Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves has said this morning that Labour is watering down its flagship green prosperity plan, blaming the"damage" the Tories have done to the economy.

"We haven’t had the final set of numbers by the government so we’re not going to give our final set of numbers.""Keir, Ed and me are all on the same page on this. We know that unless we have this green prosperity plan those jobs and investments will go elsewhere, but that everything we do must rest on these pillars of economic responsibility and fiscal responsibility”.

Sir Jakes's central assertion is that"blobonomics" is to blame, and in his speech to the conference later today, he will call for the"Oxford PPE clique" to be broken up, which is a reference to the famous Philosophy, Politics and Economics course at Oxford University. He praised former chancellor George Osbourne and former PM Boris Johnson for seeking to address the problem, and praised Rishi Sunak for"his focus on ensuring levelling up funding comes to the north".He called for the prioritisation of"tax cuts, growth and personal dyanmism", adding:"We must reject the failed mantra of blobonomics".

Mr Kinnock accused the government of seriously damaging the UK's relationship with the US on a number of fronts"due to their tendency to break international law". Mr Kinnock said it's"right there is a strategy for bringing those taxes to an end when the time is right, because it should only be on the basis of un-forecast profits".

A tax of 75% was imposed last year in response to high energy prices following the invasion of Ukraine, and the Treasury says it has raised around £2.8bn to date, and is forecast to raise £26bn by March 2028 when it is set to come to expire.
