The game was sold alongside a letter of provenance signed by Alcorn that also describes Atari’s efforts to create a commercial, at-home version of their wildly successful Pong arcade game. Alcorn wrote that the prototype’s success hinged on the replacing the arcade game’s expensive hard-wired printed circuit boards with a smaller and more affordableThe game is one of two prototypes Atari used to show potential customers, and the other is held inbefore and that he believed it would be the hardest part of the entire project. To his surprise, the plastic case designed to cover the system ended up taking longer to design and produce—and cost more money—than the chip.
