Pope Francis met today with Indigenous leaders in Canada who want an apology for the Catholic Church's role in running residential schools that abused Indigenous children for decades.
The Canadian government, the Presbyterian Church, the Anglican Church and the United Church of CanadaThe pope met with delegations representing the Métis and the Inuit on Monday, and will meet with First Nations representatives on Thursday before hearing from all three groups on Friday.What they're saying:
“We hope that in committing to us, committing to real action, the church can finally begin its own pathway towards meaningful and lasting reconciliation," Cassidy Caron, president of the Métis National Council, told reporters.
