More exciting bagel news for the Bay Area.
Nearly two years after Poppy Bagels launched as a pop-up and fast became a power player in theOwner Reesa Kashuk made the announcement Tuesday in anwhere she shared the forthcoming store would open in Oakland’s trendy Temescal neighborhood at 5004 Telegraph Ave. The business hasn’t set an opening date yet, but her aim is to open sometime in the late summer or early fall.
The new space, which was the former home to Dona Tomas, is expected to have a massive revolving deck oven that will not only assist with bagel production but also render more evenly baked goods. Currently, Kashuk uses a pizza oven at her commercial kitchen space but describes the revolving deck oven as a “pizza oven on steroids.”From L to R: Andria Lo // Phillip Romano
Kashuk, an East Coaster who is a self-described bagel purist, says that Poppy Bagels will continue to offer a roster of hand-rolled bagels while adding new flavors like egg and pumpernickel. She also hopes to enhance the existing sandwich menu with an egg and cheese option, and generally develop Poppy Bagel’s menu with new items like salads, cookies and scones.
