Portmarnock Golf Club has moved closer to hosting The Open Championship after the Government agreed today to pledge up to €40 million to meet infrastructure costs.
And after weighing all of the costs and benefits, the Government has decided to financially support Portmarnock in meeting the significant infrastructural demands it faces to host both The Open and the Women's Open. “We already have a reputation as a world-leading golf destination and hosting these events would further enhance Ireland as a global destination for the sport. I look forward to the next steps to hopefully make this happen.”
