Scotland international Liam Cooper has been linked with a number of clubs since leaving Leeds United at the end of the 2023/24 season
Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has rubbished reports linking his side with a move for former Leeds United centre-back Liam Cooper. The Scotland international is available on a free transfer, having left the Whites earlier this summer following the expiry of his contract.
But Mousinho, speaking ahead of Pompey's Carabao Cup first round tie with Millwall, said Cooper is not a player on the Championship club's radar. "There’s nothing in that , he said. "Liam is a fantastic player with massive Premier League pedigree, but, as far as we are concerned, that’s not one we have been looking at at all."
It is thought United offered Cooper a one-year contract to extend his Elland Road stay but the 32-year-old wanted a long deal. A number of Championship clubs have expressed an interest in Cooper since his Whites exit, including Blackburn Rovers. Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers were also said to be closely monitoring his situation.
"When you’re so young in age and just one year at the club, you have to try fulfil these big footsteps, it’s never easy, but it was our choice with Ethan , Pascal and Illan , it’s a young leadership group but it’s what we’re all about."
