The wait goes on
Renewed pleas have been made for the government to commit to new hospital plans for Preston and Lancaster.
That information is needed so local figures can understand whether they can proceed with the full replacements or instead pursue the alternative, less preferred options. Among those to express concern at the lack of detail in Health Secretary Steve Barclay's announcement is county councillor Lizzi Collinge.
"They are also needed to enable the hospitals to recruit more staff and give them a great place to work. What the public in Lancashire and South Cumbria need is a clear financial settlement and a clear commitment to two full new hospitals for our area." If all goes as hoped, the existing Royal Preston Hospital and Royal Lancaster Infirmary sites would remain in place to deliver services to our population until new hospital facilities are opened.
