with confidence, and multiple chances created proved they were a side to watch out for as they faced opponents sitting in third place in league standings.
An excellent run from Olivia Askam in the 17th minute of play broke Accrington’s defence, for her shot to go just shy of the top corner of the net. Chances were created from both teams, with PNE goalkeeper Justine Elliott providing some vital saves to keep the Lilywhites in the game. But it was refereeing decisions that overshadowed the game, as both PNE and spectators were visibly unhappy with the performance of the referee.
It was predictable from this that controversial conclusions would entail, which was seen in the first ten minutes of the second half whenThe Lilywhites fought on with just ten players to create issues for Accrington’s pressing attack, but the game ended at 0-0.
