“Having spent time with many of Mandela’s family members over the years, I speak to you today with humility, mindful of how much the man they loved means so much to so many,” Harry said at the beginning of his speech., and Mandela from 1997. “When I first looked at the photo, straightaway what jumped out was the joy on my mother’s face. The image was taken when the pair met in Cape Town in March 1997, just months before Diana’s death in August of the same year.
