After he finished giving evidence earlier this afternoon, Prince Harry remained in court to watch Jane Kerr, former royal editor at the Daily Mirror, face questions.
The Duke of Sussex also said"good morning" to those of us waiting outside court 15 and looked relaxed as he walked in. If he was jetlagged from his daughter's second birthday party followed by a West Coast flight, he hid it well. He puffed out his cheeks as he entered the witness box today, clearly this experience has been draining, but was quick to smile to familiar faces in the room.
Harry said phone hacking was"on an industrial scale across three of the papers at the time" and that he"would feel an injustice, if it wasn’t accepted". Mr Green's reply:"So you WANT to have been phone hacked?" Harry's response was solemn, “Nobody wants to be phone hacked, my lord.” By coming to the witness box Harry has had to go through each of the 33 articles one by one - you could see on his face that he found it emotionally draining. He looked weary discussing his past relationships. He told the court,"It was distressing going through this process and I would say more distressing sitting here having to go through it all again." He looked pained when saying another former girlfriend, Caroline Flack,"was no longer with us".
He was eager to listen to the evidence of the next witness - Jane Kerr, former royal editor at the Mirror. Harry took a seat next to his solicitors. He puffed out his cheeks, clearly drained, and briefly puts his hands on his face. Mr Sherborne's questioning of the former royal editor was robust. At one point Andrew Green KC stood up to object to his line of questioning and described it as"an ambush". The judge said it was"not an ambush". Ms Kerr will continue giving evidence tomorrow.
The duke looked pained during discussion of an article about his time with Caroline Flack as he said the presenter is"no longer with us"; "I think if I had seen a story and seen something appeared to be wrong I could have questioned it," Ms Kerr replies, but adds that she had"no reason to think Coleman-Rayner had supplied unlawful information".David Sherborne is continuing to question Jane Kerr on her use of private investigators.The barrister says she should therefore be"well aware of the importance that the methods you use as a journalist should be lawful" and the risks of using unlawful methods.
"No... they were people who provided us with stories, I had no reason to think they were obtained unlawfully."'Proud of you Harry' She says she developed a"network of contacts" over time and"regularly talked to a lady who was an avid follower of the royals"; She says when she started working as a royal reporter there was a"marked shift towards the way the royals could be reported on" after the death of Princess Diana;"Occasionally, the Palace would arrange photo-calls with the Princes at key points of their lives in exchange for them being left alone," she adds;
