Prince Harry and Prince William may face another ‘awkward’ meeting at the funeral of their uncle Lord Robert Fellowes, who died at the age of 82 on Monday 29 July
Estranged brothers Prince Harry and Prince William may experience an ‘awkward’ meeting at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond. The journalist and television presenter spoke exclusively to OK! following the death of Lord Fellowes, who served as private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II for nine years, and was married to Princess Diana ’s sister Lady Jane Spencer for 46 years.
“I imagine Harry will want to be at his uncle’s funeral…. but his presence would cause all sorts of awkwardness if William attends too,” she said. “It would be nice to think, though, that two grown-up men could at least be in the same space…. as they were at the coronation, albeit briefly…. without ruining an occasion of great sadness and solemnity.”It is possible that the funeral of their beloved uncle could spark a softening of relations between William and Harry, but Jennie isn’t so sure.
“None of these once in a lifetime events did anything to mend the rift between the brothers. Both boys have remained close to their maternal aunts, and they all came together to unveil the statue to Diana three years ago. The brothers were already at war, but appeared civil…perhaps for the sake of their aunts,” she added.
