The Prince of Wales paid a visit to the New York City fire station, which is located beside the World Trade Centre, while on his first official solo trip to the US.
Prince William received an incredibly warm welcome during a visit to New York City fire station, beside the World Trade Centre, as FDNY members cracked jokes about Kate Middleton's absence from his trip.
There was a heavy security presence awaiting him outside the FDNY Ten House, which went to Ladder Company 10 and Engine Company 10. After paying his respects, William was then led inside to see the Ten House Bravest Memorial, a permanent memorial to those who died in the devastating 9/11 attacks. He added that the New York City Fire Department was the first in the country to develop a peer-to-peer type model, in which members, after 9/11, came back to volunteer.
Kane said: “It was apparent that he understood the topic. You could just tell in his presence that he knew what he was talking about with firsthand experience. He continued: “I think it’s always a positive thing that someone of his stature is interested in how we do it at the New York City Fire Department. It’s helping our membership that somebody else is willing to look at our model and take suggestions from it.
After about 30 minutes inside, William re-emerged and got straight back into one of the blacked out cars.
