A prison officer has been hospitalised with serious injuries following an unprovoked attack at Mountjoy Prison .

It is understood the attacker used a homemade improvised weapon containing a blade. A prison source said: ”This prisoner attacked the warder for no reason whatsoever and slashed his face.”
