A trial is underway
A 33-year-old prisoner was 'chased and stabbed' while he was on weekend release and on a night out in Nottingham, a court has heard. The trial of five men accused of murdering 33 year old Ricardo Cotteral has begun.
"Ricardo Cotteral was attacked by a group of men, he was stabbed but he managed to run off, he was chased and he was attacked again. He was stabbed again and he was punched and kicked. Nottingham Crown Court heard that cars, a VW Golf with Daniel and Malcolm Francis and Moore, and a grey BMW one series then took different routes into the city centre, and parked on George Street. On its way, the VW Gold is said to have pulled over and waited for a few minutes in the area of the cornerhouse, where the alleged victim was with his friends.
All men were subjected to checks on their way into the bar, and by around 1am they were all inside the bar. Mr Lloyd-Jones explained: "They were not in fact in the Wax Bar at this stage for very long." His friends went inside the Wax Bar but Mr Cotteral stayed outside as he is understood to have been speaking to an old friend he saw outside. Shortly before this, when the men could be seen walking down the street towards the bar, Moore could be seen leaving his spot at the window to speak to Malcolm Francis, Daniel Francis and Anderson, before returning to his spot.
The prosecution told the court that the car was later found by Nottinghamshire Police and subject to a scientific investigation, as "the deceased's blood was found on the rear doors" of the car, as was Wade Smith's DNA. The car was driven back to Zuloo Road, close to Springfield Road in the New Basford area where the five had originally come from, whilst the VW Golf was left at the scene.
The jury heard that Moore was the first to be arrested, followed by Smith a day later and then Anderson on May 2. Following his arrest, officers believed that Anderson had tried to dispose of his clothing from the night in question, with clothing found nearby in a public bin.
