The Kinahan/Hutch feud terrorised Dublin's inner city, and resulted in the deaths of 18 people. Nobody has been killed in the feud since 2018, but it still casts a long shadow - especially in the world of boxing.
Snapshots in time. On the night when Kellie Harrington won her second Olympic gold, Gerry Hutch stood in an outdoor basketball court in Dublin's north inner city, clapping and cheering as hard as he could.
That was Monday this week. Just two days later, 10 properties in Spain were searched by the police. They were looking into suspected money laundering by the Hutch organised crime group. A property in the north Dublin suburb of Clontarf was also searched by the Gardai. It is to Doheny's great credit that he beat all the odds that were stacked against them. Yet, in that meeting, I argued that he shouldn't be on the RTE shortlist due to his connection to MTK Global. To me, the fact that the organisation was built with Daniel Kinahan's money meant it was beyond the pale.
Since the US got involved - offering a substantial reward - the net has closed on the Kinahan cartel. Dozens have been arrested and imprisoned. The extradition agreement signed by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee with the UAE this week increases the chances of the Kinahans themselves being brought to justice soon.The receipts are everywhere.
