Just months before he died Nigel Canning told a national newspaper: 'All my friends are dead. I’m the last samurai”
A heroin addict who said all his friends had died and he was "the last samurai" was found dead after injecting himself with a fatal amount of the Class A drug.
On December 29 last year, Nigel's friend Angela Shaw went round to his home in Ivory Street where the pair of them took drugs together. At some point Angela fell asleep and when she woke up at 4am she saw Nigel injecting into his groin and just four hours later he was dead.At an inquest held on Thursday at Accrington Town Hall, Assistant Coroner Richard Taylor read extracts from a toxicology report which reveals that Nigel had fatal levels of heroin in his system at the time of his death.
Reading from the statement the coroner said: "She says she fell asleep after seeing him on the sofa injecting heroin into his right leg. She woke at 4am and he was still alive and had just taken some more heroin. When she woke at 8am she initially thought he was asleep and he was slumped on the floor."
