As the cost of living has surged, so has shoplifting. The crime leaves a massive hole in the finances of traders already watching the pennies at this difficult time.
Here, Legal Affairs Correspondent Rebecca Sherdley examines the cases of prolific shoplifters before the courts in Nottingham this year.Rebecca Williams and Lindsay Gregory As two prolific shoplifters, Rebecca Williams and Lindsay Gregory are banned from entering stores after carrying out a number of raids on Nottingham shops.
She was also given a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order , which prohibits her from entering the three stores, and ordered to pay £150 compensation. James Kirtley James Kirtley was wanted for a catalogue of crimes when he sparked a police chase in Newark on June 17 this year. Driving a Mini Cooper, 41-year-old Kirtley drove at 70mph in a 30mph zone and narrowly missed a member of the public.
Having pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, six counts of theft, and making off without payment, Kirtley, of Knight’s Court, Newark, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Monday, July 24, and received 15 months in prison and a three-year driving ban.
