Dublin's emergency domestic violence court witnessed a surge in applications for protection orders, highlighting the growing prevalence of domestic abuse. Cases involved partners, ex-partners, and even parents against their children, showcasing the wide-ranging impact of this issue.

A woman who described her husband as a pillar of the community but a tyrant at home, obtained a protection order. She and her children live in fear, constantly walking on eggshells, as her husband's abusive behavior towards her and their sons is a recurring issue. His anger escalates easily, leading to violent outbursts. She recounted an incident where he shoved her against the fridge and advanced menacingly, only to be stopped by her son's intervention.

The children question their father's contrasting demeanor, expressing bewilderment at his seemingly different persona outside their home. She lamented, 'It's like he puts on a mask.'In another case, a distressed mother was granted an interim barring order against her mentally ill adult son who violently attacked her. She described being trapped for an hour, unable to breathe, due to his aggressive actions. Despite her son's serious psychiatric illness, he refuses to acknowledge his condition and neglects his medication. She pleaded with the court, 'He needs to be sectioned.'Further cases involved a woman seeking protection from her ex-partner who allegedly exposed himself and tried to force his genitals into her face during a confrontation about child access. Another woman obtained a protection order against her former partner, who subjected her to coercive control and abusive behavior, threatening her life and her family's safety. Several men also filed applications, with two securing protection orders against their ex-partners for alleged abusive behavior, while a third man's access application was adjourned
