B.C. school district condemns COVID-19 protests, while N.S. premier decries protest at doctor’s home

A woman holds a sign while attending a rally and march organized by people opposed to COVID-19 vaccination certificates and public health measures in Vancouver on Sept. 8, 2021.A British Columbia school district says it will begin locking its schools’ outside doors during class time after protesters opposed to COVID-19 protective measures entered several facilities on Friday.

Kriger says the protesters’ decision to enter schools around Salmon Arm, B.C., is “completely unacceptable.”Starting Monday, outside doors to schools in the district will remain locked during the day, and those who want to enter a school are asked to contact staff. Kriger says the district will be working with RCMP to ensure protesters are kept off school property.

The Premier added he believes in the right to free speech and protest, but venues like the legislature or his office in downtown Halifax are locations for demonstrations rather than the private homes of public servants. The Premier also criticized rallies held over the past week outside hospitals, referring to the protest outside Strang’s residence as “a new low.”“There isn’t language harsh enough to condemn these actions,” he said.
