The PSNI has said that the New IRA is the 'primary focus' following the shooting of off-duty Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell
THE POLICE OFFICER shot in Co Tyrone yesterday evening has been named as Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell.
The officer’s identity was confirmed by Assistant Chief Constable Mark McEwan on BBC Radio Ulster’s Good Morning Ulster programme this morning.The Assistant Chief Constable outlined the details of the attack that the PSNI have gathered. McEwan said the investigation is at an early stage and that police believe the gunmen left in a small dark car that was later found burned out.
“Our thoughts are with the injured officer, his family, colleagues and friends at this difficult time,” Varadkar said.
