Ticket scammers defrauded concertgoers in Northern Ireland of £300,000 (€350,000) last year.

The PSNI said 299 people had reported ticket fraud to them in the past 12 months. At least some of those caught out by scammers had been heading to high profile acts playing in Dublin and the police have issued a warning as the summer concert season starts.

"They're only discovering that late in the day, potentially even when they turn up at the ticket barrier and find out as their friends walk in that they're not getting into those concert venues when they're expecting to have a good night out," chief supt Pollock said.He also urged people to avoid buying tickets from social media sites or from sending cash for tickets by bank transfer.
