Fisker confirms the production schedule for its new Pear EV. It'll go on sale in 2024, becoming a cheaper rival for the Tesla Model 3.
There’ll be plenty of Pears on the road if Fisker gets its own way, too. The brand expects a minimum production volume of 250000 cars per year once its plants are running at full strength, which is ambitious considering the company’s age. For comparison,Fisker’s boldness is thanks to its partnership with the Chinese electronics giant, Foxconn.
Foxconn recently launched a pair of electric cars, both based on its new Hon Hai Open platform. The smaller car – a compact SUV called the Model C – looks to be a similar size and shape to the SUV in the Fisker’s teasers. It’s feasible that Fisker will simply take the Chinese EV, slap some new badges on it and put it on sale in Western markets.
This strategy would save the company huge amounts of money on developing a platform and powertrain in-house that can meet its aggressive pricing strategy. Fisker has also said that it will launch another electric car built on the same underpinnings as the Pear, suggesting we’ll soon see a re-engineered version of Foxconn’s Model E saloon.
Fisker hasn’t made it clear whether the Pear will go on sale in the UK. However, the company recently confirmed some UK prices for its other electric car, theFisker’s CEO, Henrik Fisker, said: “PEAR will feature the very latest technology in a beautifully designed, affordable urban mobility device. It’s an exciting vehicle and an exciting time for the company as we expand our lineup.
