A member of Russian President Vladimir Putin's inner circle has expressed discontent with the Kremlin leader over his handling of the war in Ukraine, according to a report.

While a name could not be confirmed, details of the noted opposition, which U.S. intelligence uncovered, according to the Washington Post, were included in one of President Joe Biden’s daily intelligence briefings.

The criticism is the latest indication that the losses in the war in Ukraine are creating turmoil within the Kremlin and Russia at-large despite Putin’s insistence on forging ahead. “Many are saying that the defense minister — who allowed things to come to this — should simply shoot himself like a [real] officer,” he said in a video on his social media account as he assured Russian state media that “the situation is under control.”

Putin Tightens Infrastructure Security After Blast on BridgePutin Tightens Infrastructure Security After Blast on BridgeRussian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree tightening security for the Kerch Bridge and for energy infrastructure between Crimea and Russia. Russia’s federal security service, the FSB, was put in charge of the effort. The move by Putin came after an explosion earlier Saturday caused the partial collapse of the bridge that links the Crimean Peninsula with Russia, damaging an important supply artery for the Kremlin’s faltering war effort. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in a video address, indirectly acknowledged the attack on the bridge by talking about the cloudy weather in Crimea but did not address its cause. Zelenskyy said Ukraine wants a future “without occupiers. Throughout our territory, in particular in Crimea.”

Putin tightens infrastructure security after blast on bridgePutin tightens infrastructure security after blast on bridgeAn explosion Saturday caused the partial collapse of a bridge linking the Crimean Peninsula with Russia, damaging an important supply artery for the Kremlin's faltering war effort in southern Ukraine and hitting a towering symbol of Russian power in the region. The speaker of the Russian-backed regional parliament in Crimea accused Ukraine, but Moscow didn’t apportion blame. The explosion, which Russian authorities said was caused by a truck bomb, risked a sharp escalation in Russia’s eight-month war, with some Russian lawmakers calling for President Vladimir Putin to declare a “counterterrorism operation,' shedding the term “special military operation” that had downplayed the scope of fighting to ordinary Russians.
