Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson proved a menace to Manchester City but the Senegal international was unable to capitalise on the opportunities he was able to create in the FA Cup semi-final - his finishing ultimately proving costly
There was little surprise when Nicolas Jackson rounded Stefan Ortega only to fail to get a shot away during Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final defeat.
There's no doubt Jackson sometimes lack a clinical edge, but he is rarely anonymous. That can mean an argument with a fan or over taking a penalty but it often sees a relentless work-rate - he was not perturbed against City - and an ability to retain possession when you least expect it. Jackson draws much analysis for his misses but it should not easily be forgotten the ex-La Liga star has already matched Didier Drogba's Premier League tally of 10 goals in his debut season. It will be a tall task for the young forward to replicate the Chelsea legend's career, particularly in this iteration of the Blues, but it may be one sign he should not be written off.
Following Saturday's defeat, conversations around whether an elite striker must be signed returned. It is understood the club planned to sign a forward in the summer unless a current player was able to establish they could carry the burden, or a collection of players could contribute to an elite level. That question would appear to remain unanswered even with Palmer's sparkling form.
