Q&A: TBS' Jeff Francoeur on Astros-Mariners, Minute Maid noise and MLB's parity
Former major league outfielder Jeff Francoeur will be the color analyst for TBS' broadcasts of the Astros-Mariners series beginning Tuesday.When it comes to the baseball playoffs, Jeff Francoeur received his baptism by fire at Minute Maid Park.
On the eve of the series opener, Francoeur discussed the Astros-Mariners matchup and other baseball topics with Chronicle staff writer Greg Rajan. Comments were edited for brevity and clarity. Q: If you’re an Astros fan, do you worry about playing a team like the Mariners that had to battle to get into the playoffs while your team has been on cruise control for the past month or so?When I talked to Dusty doing the TBS game last Tuesday night against the Phillies, he was a little worried about the five days off. And I understand. I’m going to be interested to see the Dodgers, Braves, Astros and Yankees, how they all respond in Game 1.
The advantage a team like the Astros has is they’re a difference between momentum and riding it and also when guys get tired. I called the 2020 ALCS with the Astros and Rays when the Astros came back from being down 3-0. By the time the Rays got to the World Series, those bullpen arms had nothing left to face the Dodgers. And the Dodgers just teed off on them.
