Talented jockey Michael O'Sullivan remains in intensive care after a serious fall at Thurles racecourse, prompting an outpouring of support from the racing community and beyond.

Ruby Walsh expressed the sentiments shared by the racing community and the wider public when he voiced his hope for Michael O'Sullivan's recovery as the jockey remains in intensive care. O'Sullivan, a talented rider, was airlifted to Cork University Hospital following a serious fall at Thurles on Thursday. The racing event was subsequently abandoned due to the incident.

O'Sullivan was riding Wee Charlie for trainer Gerard O'Leary and was one of three riders to fall at the last hurdle in the two-mile Racing Again February 20th Handicap Chase. Two other horses were badly hampered by the incident, unseating their riders. Walsh, a guest on ITV's The Opening Show on Saturday, joined the program's hosts in sending their thoughts and well wishes to the Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey and his family. Host Oli Bell stated, 'We are very much sending our prayers and love to Michael and his family.' Walsh added, 'He's in Cork University Hospital. He's fighting, breathing, very fit, very strong, and he needs a bit of luck, and hopefully, he gets it.' Dr. Jennifer Pugh, the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board's (IHRB) Chief Medical Officer, provided an update on O'Sullivan's condition on Friday morning. In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), she said, 'Michael is in the intensive care unit at Cork University Hospital being treated for his injuries sustained at Thurles yesterday and is receiving the best medical care. Michael's family wish to express their gratitude for all the well wishes.
