Adjudicator upholds decision to dismiss Galway Bay FM veteran broadcaster Neil Molloy

Photograph: Colin Keegan/CollinsThe former host of Galway Bay FM’s breakfast show, who was sacked last year over what was termed a “verbal assault” on the radio station’s chief executive, has lost a claim for unfair dismissal at the Workplace Relations Commission .
Ibec official Declan Thomas, representing the radio station, submitted that Mr Molloy had subjected chief executive Cormac O’Halloran and the station’s programme director, John Divilly, to a “verbal assault” on June 1st, 2023.Housing crisis: It’s not just how many homes we need, but what kind we buildIt followed the chief executive taking away Mr Molloy’s company fuel card and expressing reservations when Mr Molloy asked whether he was allowed to take up outside work, the WRC heard.
During his suspension, while waiting for the outcome of the investigation, Mr Molloy complained through his trade union that Galway Bay FM had published adverts on social media promoting the show but showing only his co-presenter, the tribunal was told. Ms O’Connor submitted that Mr O’Halloran had been “disrespectful” towards her client ever since taking over as chief executive and said any issue Mr O’Halloran had with the fuel card given to her client by the previous chief executive “should have been dealt with in a proper manner”.
