The scenes in the city centre have been described as a 'nightmare' 😳

The UCI Cycling World Championships kicked off on Thursday with over 2,600 athletes competing across the city - but motorists in the city centre have described the "nightmare" scenes with some struggling to get into work.

One office worker, who visits the city centre 90 per cent of the week was forced to turn back and work from his East Kilbride home after driving around for half an hour.He told Glasgow Live: "I had maybe two or three cars in front of me and the diversions were taking people to roads that were closed. People were having to turn back on themselves.

"Lots of horns were getting beeped. It was as if everyone was trying to escape at the same time. Nobody was adhering to lanes or traffic lights - there was a lot of anger. The full list of road closures for today's events can be found here. "Parking should have been one thing they had thought about. Large portions of the city are closed so where are people going to park?
