The Rangers are asking their stars to create the championship environment for their young players to follow.
They are, to quote manager Chris Woodward, the “pillars” which will support the next great era of Rangers baseball. “Beacons” might be an even better word. Not only should their play stabilize the franchise, but the examples they set should help guide others toward a safe path to success. In part, it’s why Young doesn’t use the word “pillar” as freely. In Young’s vision everybody has a role to play. It’s not their job to solely carry the franchise.
He’s finished in the top three of the AL MVP voting in each of the last two 162-game seasons, won a Gold Glove in his first season at second and set a season home run record for second basemen. That space is symbolic of the separation of their backgrounds: Seager was a purebred. He is the younger brother of a 10-year veteran , was a first-round pick and grew up in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization where his team went to the postseason every year of his career.
