Jose Cifuentes' move to Greece has dragged on but is finally nearing a conclusion while Gers Euro rivals warmed up with a win
Rangers flop Jose Cifuentes has a medical booked at Aris Thessaloniki on Monday according to reports in Greece as the South American finally prepares to seal his Ibrox exit.
The Ecuador international is heading to the Super League side on an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy for a fee of around £4 million. Michael Beale predicted big things from Cifuentes when he arrived from LAFC last summer but he failed to live up to the hype and was shipped out to Cruzeiro on loan in January. Rangers will desperate to recoup the £1.
Meanwhile, Dynamo Kyiv boss Oleksandr Shovkovskyi reckons being able to rest almost half his team in their opening league game of the season might yet give them the edge over Rangers. Rangers welcome the Ukrainian side to Hampden on Tuesday for the second leg of the Champions League third qualifying round, after a 1-1 draw in Poland.
Both Rangers and Dynamo edged to 2-1 weekend wins in their league with Philippe Clement's side beating Motherwell and Dynamo defeating Veres Rivne. Dynamo were able to rest five players for the trip to Scotland after captain Andriy Yarmolenko, keeper Heorhiy Bushchan, defender Oleksandr Karavayev and strikers Vladyslav Vanat and Volodymyr Brazhko were all rested for the match which involved a seven-hour bus journey by Dynamo. And Shovkovskyi insisted his call will pay off in Glasgow.
He said: "I opted to rotate the squad and leave some players fresh for the match against Rangers. It was my call and I believe it will prove to be the right one. I thought some players looked tired in the first leg and it was the right thing to do. In the end, we could have scored six or seven goals in the first half alone so it certainly didn't weaken the squad. We will give absolutely everything to qualify in Glasgow.
